It’s been a while between updates at the Million Euro Wiki , mainly because there’s been nothing to say, until recently so here we go with the latest news from the MEW.

It seems Graham from the MDW has decided to sell up in search of a few bucks for other business ventures, how does this affect us you might ask?

The way we see it, it can only be good for the Million Euro Wiki . If Graham sells for the kind of money he’s hinted at, $30K, the new owner would have a large stake in it’s continued success and more than likely tip some serious dollars in for advertising and marketing.

As with many articles I’ve seen to date, the MEW gets many a mention being the copy cat sight, we’re still happy to be seen in that light and will take all the second hand press the MDW wants to give us. If he doesn’t sell, then it’s business as usual for all with an increase in traffic due to the hype of the sale if nothing else.

We’ve been in email contact with Steve McGrath regarding some valid concerns he had regarding the Million Euro Wiki concept and the apparent lack of activity.

In addition to the recent page sales, Steve being one of the purchasers, he has also written a good summary of how Million Euro Wiki came to life and how it will continue.

One of Steve’s suggestions has prompted us to drop the paid for spot on the front page and offer advertising spot as a reward for anybody who blogs about the Million Euro Wiki.

So if you want to get your 250 x 250 banner and affiliate link on the front page of the Million Euro Wiki then write a post and send us the link, we’ll get new advertisers up in a first come first served basis and rotate every week or so. Steve’s summary is a great example of the sort of write-up we need to keep this going.

Content and Categories

As previously mentioned, we need all page owners to get unique content on their pages and to add the categories and navigation tool, this will greatly improve the way the site is seen in the eyes of the search engines. Please check the previous posts on the MEW Blog for all the details on adding Categories and Navigation to your page.

After a stall at 73 we’ve hit the next milestone and the iPod that’s been sitting in the bottom draw is about to be drawn for 1 lucky page owner from the 51 to 75 page mark.

What’s Next?

Work towards getting 100 quality pages sold on the Million Euro Wiki . We’re looking at some other means of advertising and creating buzz at the moment and we’re starting to see an increase in traffic. Like Steve says in his post, think outside of the box and find a page in a different niche and the traffic will come!

With our continued push to get MEW pages ranked in the various search engines it is important that you all follow a few important steps.

1st. Submit you particular page/s to search engines. i.e. Google Add Url

2nd. Ensure you have outgoing links and incoming links to your MEW pages. i.e. link to similar highly ranked sites, link back from your personal blogs etc.

3rd. Add navigation to your page/s and include navigation back to the home page. I have provided a text file at the bottom of this post that you can copy and paste into bottom of your MEW page if you are struggling to get good navigation into your page. Just select the link and copy the contents from the window and paste to the bottom of your MEW Page/s. This will provide navigation to the main page and the categories as this will help the search engine spiders visit all the pages, index them all, and rank them high!

If we all do these 3 basic step we can go along way to increasing page rankings. I urge you all to complete these 3 steps ASAP to ensure the continued success of your pages.

Marketing:

We’ve been brainstorming some marketing ideas and want to start rolling them out in the near future. A quick look around some pages on the site shows a few that require some work. If we’re going to drive the traffic in, we want the people visiting to be impressed when they look through the site. We need ALL pages owners to get some quality content up on their page as soon as possible.

Search Engines Results:

Good news when searching for Million Euro Wiki on Google and Yahoo … we’re now returning the number 1 position! This has been a big point for the Million Euro Wiki bashers out there so it’s good to be able to prove them wrong and hopefully this will mean all pages will get indexed easier and quicker. I’m sure a lot if not all of you have personal and other business websites you’re updating regularly. With such a diverse listing of sites amongst our page owners it’s important to be linking both in and out of the Million Euro Wiki to give us the best shot at a favorable ranking by Google into the future - Every little bit helps.

As most people are aware now MEW has had a change of ownership. We want to take this opportunity to advise everyone that this change has in no way compromised any aspect of the MEW. In fact over the coming days you will see subtle changes in layout and content. The changes will happen slowly so as to not confuse anybody and each change will be detailed in the forum under “News” category. Also please take this opportunity to make you suggestions using the “Suggestions” category.

Since taking over the MEW, we have spent a lot of time getting the structure under control, building user management tools and ensuring any change we perform will not impact you as stakeholders or the MEW itself. We have also taken the first steps to proactively marketing the MEW.

Million Euro Wiki

Just a quick update regarding the MillionEuroWiki project. As you all know by now, we are the driving force behind MEW and we apologize to anyone that is making an issue out of the fact that we initially wrote about it in third person, which led to believe that it wasn’t ours. We hope you don’t get mad when we tell you that we’re not really cows and are in fact not even plural!

A lot of the “coverage” we found throughout the blogosphere were negative rants, people accusing us of being a scam for newbies, to con them out of their money. The same people that dedicated multiple posts on their blogs to slander the project without any constructive criticism. The same people that are saying stuff like;”JohnChow’s RSS stats dropped 1000 overnight after he promoted MEW, because everyone sees he’s a scammer!” and “Million Euro Wiki doesnt even rank in the first place for it’s own name on Google!” –after we just had launched. These are the people that think they know what they are talking about but actually don’t and mislead others by doing so. We’re not even gonna explain, again, how RSS stats work for example or why we’re not a “trusted” site yet in Google eyes, which obviously impacts SERPs.(search engine results pages)

Good intentions gone bad?

Unfortunately these rant posts are the results that are popping up on the first page on Google if you look for “Million Euro Wiki”. A great accomplishment for those that were deliberately out to get us. Maybe not as a personal issue, but more as an act of “Bitching about something because you can”. These people who act like they know what they are talking about to others and thus are creating a negative aura around MEW, they are ruining things for those of us that do believe there are benefits and profits in participating by buying a page. They are the ones that are purposely damaging the project and hurting the investments of everyone that has purchased a page. This means we will have to work even harder to make this work and make all community members a profit in due time. You don’t have to agree with the project, but we do appreciate criticism we can use to improve things.

We all need to contribute to the success.

We are going to hand out custom discount coupons to current page owners on the MEW. They can use this coupon to promote the project and grow the community. Not only will the coupon give a $10 discount to whoever uses it, it will also make the page owner who owns the custom coupon a $30 affiliate earning. This way we are motivating page owners to actively promote MEW, which will again reflect on collective traffic that can be generated by doing so. They also have the opportunity to break even after they have sold just three pages. From that point onwards, all the money thats coming in through whatever way they are monetizing their page is pure profit. We all benefit. Affiliate payments will be paid on or close to the 1st of each month based on the previous months earnings. Only 1 affiliate code is allowed per page and the sale of the page means that coupon code is no longer active. The new page owner must apply for a new coupon.

Just to make things clear once more; The majority of the money that is generated by page sales is being reinvested in our affiliates who are generating buzz and traffic for the site and marketing campaigns. We’ve even got an official press release lined up, written up by a professional editor. (Who happens to be a reader, thanks Angel!) If you think that with 60 pages sold now that we’re sitting on a pile of cash, think again. It costs money to make the site a success for everyone. We’re lucky if we can buy a happy meal at McDonald’s right now! Well, perhaps two. All we’re asking is to give the project a chance and stop trying to kick it down while it’s still on the ground. It doesn’t do anyone any good.

Congratulations to John Chow and Investing for winning the first two Ipods we’ve given away sofar!

We’re happy to report that so far we’ve made ~$3000,00 and his certainly exceeds any expectations we had! With the help of a few other bloggers out there, we managed to get some good exposure on the site and it seems we’re already going to have to draw a name to give away that first 16GB iPod touch since we sold over 25 pages. Just another 10 needed to pick a second winner for another iPod!

Now just to reply to a few of the comments we had in the first post we did on the MEW

Obviously not everyone was as excited about the project as others were and that’s normal. You just can’t please everyone! We however get the feeling that some of the negative comments were just posted for the sake of being negative. There was no real constructive feedback to be found. Sure, MEW is a copy of MDW and works the same. But is that a reason to bitch about it? Let’s just take a silly example.

After the invention of the Internal Combustion Engine it was easier to make a car that was small enough and reliable enough to be practicle. Just like with the steam cars, a lot of people were trying to come up with an internal combustion engine car at the same time. The two most important people were Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz. Both of these men patented a car in Germany in 1886 but Karl Benz patented his first so most people say he invented the car.

So how many of you drive a Daimler Benz? We bet not even 10%. Most of you will drive different cars. All copies from the original that Daimler and Benz created. Does anyone give a damn about that? No.

You should look at the thousands of paid web directories on the Internet. They all do the same thing; provide people the opportunity to get more exposure for their products or services. The Million Euro Wiki does exactly that, but instead of having to pay a monthly fee for a single link to your page, or even having to outbid other to keep listed, MEW asks a mere one time $100 and provides you with an entire page that you can use as you see fit.

Then some other complaints about how we make $2500,00 per 25 pages sold and only give away an iPod worth $400,00 which would leave us with $2100,00. Seriously, besides the fact that we pay a good percentage of our money to affiliates, can we ask you what you’re doing to make yourself some money and what you’re giving away? We worked hard to get this set up and we’ve invested time and money in it. We’re constantly trying to improve the service and work with our members to make it something everyone will benefit from. If you don’t like it, that’s fine. But to try and break it down by insinuating things and just pointing out the flaws –we just don’t see the point.

Haven’t we seen this one before? Yes and no! The one you’re thinking about does dollars, these guys do euros. (duh!). Since the dollar is worth less and less these days, some clever person quickly grabbed this opportunity to start a paid wiki service in euros. The milliondollarwiki is a success formula since it provides online money makers with a new, hot form of micro marketing. Buy a page and you’ll own it for life. Some smart people quickly grabbed some excellent pages like “money, music, computers, design and blogs”. They’ve setup shop and are now actually making nice money from their $100 investment by offering services and products. In the long run they’ll be able to sell their wikipage and most likely cash in on those premium words!

Too late over at the dollarshop? Now is the time to get in early and become the owner of some high quality pages on the millioneurowiki!
